Phantom Blade Zero tops 4 million copies sold in 72 hours
Chinese studio S-GAME announced that Phantom Blade Zero has sold over 4 million copies across all platforms in just 72 hours, counting from its October 29, 2026 launch on PC and PS5.
A launch confirmed by the specialized press
The announcement was picked up on November 2, 2026 by several specialized outlets, including RPGSite, FullCleared, VGChartz and Unboxholics, citing S-GAME's own communication. The studio did not break down the exact split between PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and PS5, nor between regions. Peak concurrent players on Steam were also notable: according to SteamDB, roughly 723,000 to 731,000 players were connected at once in the first days, a figure that places the game among the year's most-watched launches on the platform, even though media reports cite slightly different peaks depending on when they measured it.
Ahead of launch, analyst Rhys Elliott (Alinea Analytics) estimated pre-orders at around 850,000 units combined across Steam and PS5, for close to $43 million in revenue, with about 62.5% of sales coming from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Those estimates did not account for WeGame, Tencent's Chinese distribution platform, suggesting the real pre-order volume was already higher before the official launch.
A solid critical reception
Phantom Blade Zero landed a Metacritic score of around 88 on PC (roughly 87 to 89 depending on platform), and an OpenCritic average close to 91 to 92. Critics broadly praised the presentation, weapon variety and boss fights, with some reservations about pacing and narrative in certain stretches.
The "user score" figures on the promo graphic, worth treating with caution
The graphic circulated by S-GAME also lists user scores: 8.8 on PC, 9.3 on PS5, 89% positive reviews on Steam, and 4.71/5 on the PlayStation Store. These figures could not be independently corroborated at the time of writing. On Steam, independent tallies show meaningfully different positive-review percentages depending on review language: around 86% for English-language reviews, but only 79% for Simplified Chinese reviews, which make up a large share of the total. The 89% figure cited by the studio does not appear in any of the independent sources checked, possibly reflecting a more recent snapshot or an internal aggregate specific to S-GAME. For now, these user-facing numbers should be treated as studio-supplied figures, not independently verified facts.
Measured against Black Myth: Wukong, the other Chinese benchmark
The comparison is inevitable: Black Myth: Wukong, another highly anticipated Chinese production, announced 10 million copies sold in 72 hours at its August 2024 launch, roughly two and a half times the pace of Phantom Blade Zero. The two games differ in genre (single-player action-adventure versus wuxia souls-like), marketing scale and prior name recognition, but the comparison still offers a useful sense of scale: 4 million copies in 72 hours is a very strong launch for a newer studio in a niche genre, without matching the same cultural moment.

The bottom line
The 4-million-copies-in-72-hours figure is confirmed by several independent outlets citing S-GAME, and the Steam concurrent-player peak supports the idea of a successful launch. However, the "user score" figures shown on the promo graphic (Steam 89%, PC 8.8, PS5 9.3, PSN 4.71/5) have no independent confirmation as of this writing and come solely from the studio's own communication: treat them as a marketing claim, not an established fact on the same footing as the sales figure.
