Marvel's Blade reportedly almost done, but could be canceled before November 13

According to reporting from French newspaper Le Monde, relayed by Vice and WCCFTech among others, Marvel's Blade, developed by Arkane Lyon (Dishonored, Deathloop), would be nearing completion. A union representative at the studio, identified only by the first name "Simon" (from the Printemps écologique union), claims the game is "nearing the end of production." This hasn't been confirmed by either Microsoft or Arkane: it comes solely from the union.

November 13 is a legal deadline, not a cancellation date

November 13, 2026 marks the scheduled end of consultations with Arkane Lyon's Social and Economic Committee (CSE), a mandatory step under French labor law before any site closure. Studio employees learned on July 16, 2026 of Microsoft's plan to close Arkane Lyon. An internal document cited by Le Monde points to a full halt of operations by the end of 2026, continuing into early 2027. 217 jobs are affected.

What Microsoft says

Contacted by Le Monde, Microsoft said it "continues to explore options for the studio as part of the ongoing French consultation process," and is actively seeking a partner to support the next phase of development and enable the game's commercialization. The publisher names no potential partner and commits to no release date. Officially, then, Marvel's Blade hasn't been canceled.

A union fearing a "monumental waste"

Still per Le Monde, union representative "Simon" says several takeover options are under discussion, but that negotiations over the redundancy plan are going badly. He described the possibility of Marvel's Blade never releasing as "a monumental waste, artistically, humanly, and commercially."

Jason Schreier's take

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, generally well-connected in the industry, said multiple paths are being explored in parallel and that he would be "surprised" if the studio ultimately closed for good, while cautioning that "anything could happen."

A saga going back to June

This threat isn't new: as early as June 30, 2026, The Verge reported Microsoft was considering canceling Marvel's Blade and closing or selling Arkane Lyon, amid a release pushed to late 2027 and a budget overrun. Nothing was officially confirmed then, and five months later, the situation remains just as unclear.

The bottom line

A union says Marvel's Blade is nearly finished, but Microsoft hasn't officially confirmed the game's status or promised its release. November 13, 2026 marks the end of a French legal procedure, not a hard cancellation deadline: Microsoft says it's looking for a buyer, with no guarantee at this stage for Arkane Lyon's 217 jobs or the game's future.
