GTA 6 pre-load moved up to Tuesday, November 10, and you'll need up to 212 GB
Rockstar Games confirmed on November 3 via its Newswire that Grand Theft Auto VI pre-loading begins on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. That is nine days before the game launches on November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Pre-loading had been set for November 12, so Rockstar has moved it up by two days. The studio also gave an official file size for the first time: up to 212 GB, depending on the console.
Different start times on PS5 and Xbox
The two consoles open pre-loading differently. On PS5, it starts at midnight local time in each time zone, which means players in New Zealand get it first. In France, Belgium and Switzerland, that means the night between Monday, November 9 and Tuesday, November 10.
On Xbox Series X|S, pre-loading opens worldwide at the same moment: 12 a.m. GMT on November 10. That is 1 a.m. on November 10 in Paris, and 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT on Monday, November 9 in North America.
Pre-loading is only available to players with a digital pre-order. Rockstar's FAQ says PS5 owners need automatic downloads turned on, with the console either powered on or in Rest Mode. The boxed versions have no disc, only a download code. According to the Newswire, they should reach retailers from November 12, so physical buyers will start downloading two days after digital customers.
212 GB: clear space now
Rockstar says the pre-load file will need "up to 212 GB depending on your device." That is very close to the roughly 210 GB figure a dataminer found in the PlayStation Store backend the week before. On PS5, Sony tells players to clear at least 212 GB, while Rockstar describes the figure as a maximum that depends on the device. To be safe, leave yourself plenty of room.
The same announcement adds a free map of Leonida and a cover art poster that you can download and print from Rockstar's website. No PC version has been announced yet, so pre-loading only applies to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Why some pages still say November 12
Rockstar first announced November 12 as the pre-load date, exactly one week before launch. Since the November 3 update, some online guides still show the old date or mix up the two. Several outlets also noticed that Rockstar's own messaging wasn't fully consistent when the update went out. For example, the French Rockstar Store page says the boxed code lets you start pre-loading on November 10, but it gives an estimated shipping date of November 12. Go by the Newswire post and the Rockstar Support FAQ: both say November 10 for digital and November 12 for boxed copies.
As a reminder, GTA 6 has been delayed twice. It was first planned for fall 2025, then for May 26, 2026. On November 6, 2025, Rockstar announced the current November 19, 2026 date and said the extra months would go toward polish. A pre-load schedule suggests the date is holding, but until launch day this is still a preview of an unreleased game.
Key takeaways
If you pre-ordered digitally, GTA 6 starts downloading on November 10: at local midnight on PS5, and at 12 a.m. GMT on Xbox Series X|S (7 p.m. ET on November 9). Boxed copies with a download code arrive from November 12. Either way, make sure you have up to 212 GB free. The game unlocks on November 19. This announcement is about logistics only: it says nothing about the game's content or its trophy and achievement list.
