Mafia III: Definitive Edition gets native PS5 and Xbox Series versions
On October 8, 2026, 2K and Hangar 13 released native PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions of Mafia III: Definitive Edition, marking the original game's 10th anniversary (it released back in 2016). The update is free for every owner of the PS4/Xbox One version, as well as for owners of the Mafia: The Omertà Collection.
What actually changes
The headline feature is 60 FPS: the game and its real-time cutscenes now run at that framerate on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Only pre-rendered cinematics stay capped at 30 FPS. Alongside that, the patch fixes several real progression blockers (players getting stuck at checkpoints, cutscenes, or objectives, in both the campaign and the Stones Unturned DLC), visual issues (lighting, textures, vegetation, pop-in while driving), and UI issues (waypoint accuracy, control prompts, subtitle layout).
The trophy list changes too
The new version ships its own trophy list: 86 total (77 Bronze, 7 Silver, 1 Gold, 1 Platinum), replacing the old PS4 version's list. Trophy tracking itself was also improved to fix trophies that weren't unlocking properly, a real issue that affected the previous version.
What doesn't change
No surprises on the content side: no New Game Plus, no new modes, no new save slots. And crucially, progress doesn't carry over from the PS4/Xbox One version: the next-gen version counts as a separate app, so you'll need to start the campaign fresh to unlock its own trophies.

The bottom line
Mafia III: Definitive Edition moved to a native PS5/Xbox Series X|S version on October 8, 2026, free for existing owners: 60 FPS, progression and visual fixes, and a brand-new 86-trophy list since progress doesn't carry over from the old version.
