Daft Punk reportedly turned down an unlimited budget from Rockstar for GTA 6

A rumor has been circulating since October 19, 2026 around Daft Punk and GTA 6's soundtrack: according to the unofficial X account @hasitleaked, Rockstar pitched the duo's management a "final comeback" to compose the game's original score, with what's described as an essentially unlimited budget. Per the same source, Daft Punk declined, and Rockstar then turned to French duo Justice, described as a "second choice" in the rumor.

A rumor, not a confirmation

Neither Rockstar Games nor Daft Punk's representatives have confirmed this offer, the negotiations, or the claim that Justice was a second choice. The information traces back to a single post, later picked up by several accounts and outlets (including GTA BOOM) with no independent sourcing. No specific reason is given for the alleged refusal: coverage just says "the deal didn't go through."

What's actually confirmed

Justice (Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay) are officially confirmed as composers of GTA 6's original score. Their track "Flower in a Hurricane," featuring Tame Impala, SZA, and King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, was announced alongside this rumor and appears in the game's latest trailer.

And what about Guy-Manuel?

This alleged refusal of a full duo comeback doesn't rule out the already-confirmed appearance of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo as producer on "RHYNO," Travis Scott's track on Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album (see our previous article). The two pieces of information don't contradict each other: turning down a comeback as Daft Punk doesn't stop one of the two members from contributing individually, on a personal basis, to a track.

The bottom line

The rumor that Daft Punk turned down an unlimited budget from Rockstar rests on a single unofficial X account, with no confirmation from Rockstar or Daft Punk: treat it with caution. What is confirmed is that Justice are indeed composing the game's original score, and that Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo still shows up individually on a Travis Scott track regardless.
