Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve passes one million sales in a week

Bandai Namco announced on October 8, 2026 that Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve had passed one million copies sold worldwide, just over a week after its October 2 release (following a September 29 early access window for Deluxe Edition owners). It's available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam for $69.99. According to the publisher, this is the fastest any entry in the series has reached that mark.

What the announcement actually confirms

Bandai Namco gave no platform breakdown: there's no way to tell whether PS5, Xbox, or PC is driving the number. The publisher also marked the milestone with a dedicated wallpaper featuring the character Tasha. The comparison to the rest of the series is telling even without a precise speed figure for every entry: Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, released in January 2019, took more than a year to pass 2 million copies (per Destructoid, July 2020), before reaching 7 million total by January 2026, seven years after launch. One million in a week has no equivalent in the series' recent history.

What it doesn't say

"One million copies sold" typically means one million units shipped to retailers or digital storefronts, not necessarily one million actual play sessions: that's the standard measure behind this kind of publisher announcement, not an independent audit. There's also no indication of how the number will hold up over time, or how much of it comes from PS5/Xbox bundles or launch promotions.

A launch that already came with a real guide

Pathline published its full 56-trophy guide for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve right at launch, with the Assault Records system detailed and the real Platinum bottleneck called out (the MRP grind, not piloting difficulty).

The bottom line

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve passed one million sales in just over a week, an unprecedented pace for the series according to Bandai Namco, though the publisher gave no platform breakdown or any detail beyond the headline number.
